About Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a holistic complementary health therapy.

Homeopathy was developed by Samuel Hahneman in the late 18th century as an alternative to the harsh medical treatment of the time. Since then Homeopaths around the world have used it as a safe and gentle holistic health modality to support people with many conditions. Over 200 years later Homeopathy is one of the biggest medical systems worldwide and can support people with emotional, mental and physical issues.

Homeopathy works on the principle of “like cures like”, where a small dose of an ingredient that can cause symptoms in the body can alleviate the same symptoms.

Homeopathy does not mask or remove symptoms, but works with the whole person to move towards wellness. Even if two people have the same illness, they may have different reactions and experiences and will need different remedies.

Homeopathic remedies come in different potencies (strengths). The higher the potency the more deeply it acts and the more lasting the effect. Homeopathic remedies are prepared according to strict guidelines in a process called potentisation, which involves alternate dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking and striking against a surface). Potentisation allows the essence of the remedy to be maintained in a safe and effective way.

How to take and store your remedy

Dissolve pilules under the tongue in a clean mouth. Try not to handle the remedy, by using a clean teaspoon to remove the remedy from the packet, or tipping pilules into the lid. Do not let anyone else handle your remedy.

For children pilules can be crushed between two spoons and give them the powder. (Or they may be quite happy to take the pilule itself). Don’t worry if they chew on the pilule, it will still be fine.

Strong smelling or tasting substances may interfere with the action of the remedy, so avoid eating or drinking, brushing your teeth, smoking or chewing gum for 15 to 30 minutes before and after taking the remedy. (This is best practice, but with kids it can be difficult. Just give the remedy and try your best.)

Store them in a cool, dark place away from strong smelling substances and direct sunlight.

While being treated minimise your caffeine and alcohol intake, and avoid recreational drugs. Continue taking your prescribed medications.

Please discuss any other treatment you are undergoing with me, and mention to your other Health Professional that you are under the treatment of a Homeopath.

Take the remedy only as prescribed.
